GAME 76: MAR. 27 2007, Carolina Hurricanes @ Toronto Maple Leafs

The play in this game was what we all wanted to see. This showed what our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs are capable of doing. With questions over the years about lack of offense, then lack of defense, then poor goaltending, it was finally nice to see everything at once. The offense was clicking, the defense was solid, and Andrew Raycroft was fabulous in net.

The scoring came from rather unlikely sources, which is always good to see. With goals being few and far between right now for Mats Sundin, it is refreshing and exciting to see other players step up. Four Leaf goals were considered for ‘Honours Candidates’ on TSN that night, which is normally dominated by Sid the Kid.

Some people will say that Carolina looked tired, and were playing slugglish. Who cares? It’s playoff drive time, and if teams can’t keep up, they get left behind. This game was won by solid play all around by the Maple Leafs. Cam Ward looked shaky in net, and the Leafs capitalized on chances by picking the corners and going top shelf where momma hides the cookies!
