Florida nipping on the Playoff’s heels

The day after the Maple Leafs tally 6 goals in a 6-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, the Florida Panthers do us a minor favour and beat the Thrashers with a 2-1 overtime win. The Thrashers seem to be going to the playoffs regardless, but it is still not set in stone. While this is great for the Leafs, it puts Florida back into the Playoff hunt. If they can put a nice winning streak together, and the competition falters, Florida is going to become a threat down this final stretch.
Who would have thought this was possible? Florida looked down and out at the trade deadline. They were sellers at the dealine, getting rid of Gary Roberts and Todd Bertuzzi; two of their best players. They also lost Joe Nieuwendyk to retirement on December 6, 2006. It seemed as if the Florida Panthers were getting ready for next season
In many cases like this, the changes help a team. Just look at Philadelphia. When teams are down and out of the playoff run, the players play like they have something to prove. They play for jobs in the next season. These teams are dangerous, and you can never take a day off when playing them.
