Leafs pick up rarely used Clemmensen

I understand the Scott Clemmensen pickup, but was he the right choice? You can look at it two ways. First, he played behind Martin Brodeur. There is valuable experience to be learned from a goalie such as him. This is good. Second, he played behind Martin Brodeur. There are barely any games to play to get on-ice experience.

Now, Clemmensen will most likely be playing with Justin Pogge down on the Marlies. This is a good scenario for the Baby Leafs. He will get ice time and will help Pogge through rough patches. He could also be called up if need be to fill in for an injured goalie on the big squad. Clemmenson was not happy in New Jersey, simply because he did not get playing time. And I do not blame him.

Is it going to be the same here? You do not want any player who is unhappy, as it can affect the locker room and the morale of the team. He definitely will not get normal playing time on the Leafs squad. If the Leafs want Pogge to develop (which is the plan), then Clemmenson will barely play down there as well.

I wonder if Clemmenson was the right choice for this backup role. It was on the wind that Cujo wanted to come back to play the backup/mentor role. A veteran goalie who WANTS to be the backup? Why isn’t he here?
