Wellwood injured again, but for how long?
- Posted by Alex Simms on September 23rd, 2007 filed in Wellwood, Kyle
Wellwood missed 33 games last year with a sports hernia. He had surgery on it last season, and came back to play again. This off season was supposed to be an elongated rest and repair for him. 3 games into this year’s pre-season, and Welly has a recurring injury. On Saturday September 23, before the Leafs pre-season game 4 versus Boston, Wellwood underwent a minor revision to his sports hernia. He will now be out indefinitely. This will affect the Leafs in the early going. Wellwood was becoming a large part of this Leafs team, both for even strength and power play situations. We’ll see how long it takes for him to recover, at what kind of impact it means for the rest of this Maple Leafs squad.
Get well soon Kyle!

It’s still hard to tell whether this injury has affected the Leafs. It’s easy to say yes, but scoring is still tops in the league. The defensive game needs work, there’s no doubt about that, but Wellwood is not really considered one of their ’strong’ defensive players. We will have to wait and see what impact he makes when back in the lineup.

After 6 games back, it can be said the Kyle Wellwood has been missed on the power play. He has 3 goals, 2 of them on the power play. Hopefully his offensive creativeness continues to pay dividends.
