Game 4: A hurricane sweeps through Toronto

Well, not a single hurricane, but many Hurricanes. We knew this was bound to happen eventually, and we might as well get it out of the way. A 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the only team in the league where their goalie can play well, and still let 7 goals in the net. While it is easy to point the finger at a goalie for 7 goals allowed, Toskala actually didn’t play too badly. The team in front of him just did not show up for work.

A goal at 4:21 of the first period by McCabe started the game off right. The Leafs were playing very strongly up to this point, and the game looked to be a good one. But that was all a ruse. After this goal, the Hurricanes proceeded to score 7 unanswered tallies, and the rest is history.

As Leaf fans, we are unfortunately used to this scenario. It is normally at the hands of Ottawa or Buffalo though, and we played well against the Hurricanes last year. The Canes look ready to jump into the playoffs again, but this will be trouble for Toronto. The Maple Leafs need to find ways to play like the Canes did here if they have a hope of getting back to the post-season.

And the next game against the New York Islanders showed us the Leafs CAN play like the Canes did. Let’s see if they can build from the 8-1 win.
