Game 6: Sydney Crosby gets back to form

Well I’m lagging behind in my posts for the games. Apologies all around.

The Maple Leafs have a historical bad habit of allowing opposing players to break out of slumps. Or get that first goal of the season or career.

This game, like most others this season so far, started out well for the Leafs. By halfway through the first frame, the Leafs were up 2-1. So far so good, especially against a young, and highly skilled Pittsburgh Penguins team.

Everything started to fall apart in the second period. A quick goal 55 seconds into the period by Mats Sundin made Leaf fans smile. This was going to be another real good game for us. Well, we were wrong. Sydney Crosby happened. He scored a marker at 6:31 that started a downhill slide for the Leafs. By the end of the second, it was tied up 4-4.

The third period was fast paced, and Pittsburgh kept firing at the net. It was bound to happen, and it did. Crosby gets another goal to put Pittsburgh up by 1, and the rest is history. The final score was 6-4, after the Leafs had led 3-1.

The Pens fired a total of 52 shots on goal, the most against the Maple Leafs since 1999. Vesa Toskala played well, but how many times can we say this? The team needs to play well too if we have any hope of sneaking into the playoffs.
