Game 12: Leafs meet the Rangers on Broadway

This will be their second game on their current road trip. This will also mark the second game played without McCabe in the lineup, and the second game in a row that Paul Maurice starts the same lineup as the previous game. Well, why not? Why mess with a good thing?
And, as it turns out, it is a good thing he didn’t make changes. The Rangers enter this game in last place in scoring (15 goals), but first place in goals against (17). As we all know, our Maple Leafs don’t have problems scoring. Will our offensive prowess be enough to get some pucks past Lundqvist? Will the Rangers low scoring team be able to beat our Toskala for a win? This will be the third straight game Toskala has started. Is the goalie controversy answered?
The first period gets under way, and it is all Rangers. They shoot a total of 11 shots against the Leafs, with our guys only getting 5 shots off. No one scores; so far so good. The second period begins. Shots go back and forth until Jagr steps out from the bottom of the circle and fires a wrist shot over the shoulder of Toskala. About 3 minutes later, at 8:35 of the second, Kubina fires a shot from the point that hits something on the way and gets past Lundqvist. This was the spark the Leafs needed. Goals followed by Pohl, Antropov and Kilger (empty net in the third) that were all unanswered.
Jagr is always a threat. But when the Rangers need goals, they always turn to Jagr. This seems to have worked in the past, but with so many stars on this team, maybe its time to move on and go to someone else. Gomez or Drury, they can both score goals. In this game, both these guys were practically invisible. Turned out to be good news for us though!
Toskala was phenomenal, stopping 32 of 33 shots. It looks like all Toskala needed was a few games in a row to get in his groove. Let’s hope Paul Maurice see’s this as well and keeps him in net. I will be going to the game on October 29 against Washington, and I want to finally see Toskala in net!
