Game 13: Hope held too high against Washington

The Maple Leafs are on a roll. Two straight wins where the Leafs showed what their defense is able to accomplish if they want it bad enough. Of course, these wins took place on the road, where the Leafs always seem to pick up their game. Now a stop back at home, and we welcome the Washington Capitols. The Caps have been mediocre as of late and Leaf fans hope for another good game.

Right from the get-go, the Capitols seemed to have the upper hand. Boyd Gordon started the goals of with a tip-in at 3:19 of the first. The Leafs responded to that quick tally 31 seconds later when Alexei Ponikarovsky wristed a shot through Kolzig. From there, Washington turned on the jets. Three more goals were scored by the Capitols before the end of the first. Two more in the seconds and more more in the third finished the game.

There is not much more to say other than that. The Leafs were horrible defensively all game long and never seemed to be able to get their offense on the same page. Let’s hope November, and this upcoming 4 game road trip, brings some better play.
