Game 21: Leafs beat the best and shutout Sens

This team is quite amazing. They can easily go from playing a downright stinker in Boston, to playing one of their best games of the year. Ottawa’s in town. They are 15-2 on the year. Definitely the best team in the league. We all know how these games normally go, but the Leafs seemed like they had something to prove. The quest of the playoffs the realization that losing does NOT get you there seems to have sunk in a bit.

The Leafs put side their recent strategy of firing as many shots on net as they could, and decided to play defense for once. And guess what? It worked! And against the best team in the entire league. Toskala was phenominal in net as well, making some big saves at critical points during the game. Goals from Darcy Tucker, Mats Sundin and Jiri Tlusty cemented the win. 2 goals were also on the power play, which has been dismal as of late.

Everything clicked in this game. It was a good sign of what this team can do if they play the right way. Recent weeks have seen the Leafs play some good hockey (with a few bad games sprinkled in). Is this the beginning of this Maple Leafs team finding their identity? Maybe they have found a way to play that will be successful? We all know this teams main problem is with consistency.

Let’s see if they are consistent enough to play this sort of game against Boston on Tuesday.
