Game 25: Leafs fall in shootout to Canadiens

First I would like to point out that the Leafs, after this game, are 7-18 in the shootout since its inception. Not good.

This game saw Carey Price start against the Maple Leafs… again. Teams sure like to start their backup goalies against the Leafs. Why is that? (Rhetorical question folks)

The bad power play of the Leafs once again showed up today. The Leafs went 0 for 4.

The bad penalty kill of the Leafs once again showed up today. The Habs were 2 for 5.

Overall, Toronto pounded Montreal with shots, out shooting them 46 - 30. The goal scoring was also acceptable. The second and third period saw both teams trading goals back and forth, including Sundin’s tying goal with 18 seconds left to go in the third.

In the end though, the Maple Leafs ineptitude in the shootout leaves them with only 1 point… when 2 was desperately needed.

Why does Maurice always go with the same players in the shootout? Sundin is the only one who scores any goals. Why not try going with Steen, Stajan, and Wellwood for once? All three players dangle the puck more than anyone else on the team.

With the Leafs being 7 - 18, maybe it’s time to switch things up? Are you hearing me Maurice?
