Game 26: Leafs finally back in the Win column

And it was a good win too. This game saw a few Leafs break out of their slumps. Hopefully it isn’t a temporary 1 game break.

The Maple Leafs received goals from Andy Wozniewski, Alex Steen, Mats Sundin, and Matt Stajan.

Wozniewski’s goal was very odd. He shot the puck and it deflected off an Atlanta players leg into the glass. Antropov was right behind the net and watched the puck bounce off the glass, down onto the top of the net, roll off the net onto Hedburg’s back, and into the net. Antropov took a whack at the puck as it was falling, but never touched it. If he did, no goal, as his stick was above the crossbar.

Upon review, the NHL decided it was not touched by Nik, and the goal counted. It was a weird one, but still counts as Wozniewski’s second career goal. This is an excellent confidence boost for him as well. He has been playing poorly lately, but the last two games have seen improved performance. He needs to take this and roll with it.

The best line of the night was Steen, Stajan and Devereaux. Every time they were on the ice the Maple Leafs seemed to have a chance to score. It was good work by these guys, and they need to keep it up.

All in all, and excellent game. Now let’s see what these guys can do against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
