Game 33: Red hot Leafs stung by the Habs

I have always said that my favourite hockey games were between the Leafs and the Habs. That fact made this game very hard to watch.
The Maple Leafs’ late night flight seemed to have taken it’s toll on our boys. They looked slow and sluggish, and couldn’t seem to get their feet under them at any point.
Bad, ill-advised passing and blocked shots were the name of the game. The Leafs couldn’t get anything to the net, never mind past Price (until late in the third).
What is it with the Leafs allowing players who are in scoring droughts to finally get on the score sheet? They seem to have a knack at it. Saku Koivu hadn’t scored in 12 games… until this one… where he scored 2. And on both goals, where was the defenceman? Someone blew their assignment on both occasions.
To cap a bad night off, Bryan McCabe gets checked into the boards by a rookie, and breaks 3 bones in his hand. Out 6 to 8 weeks. Since he came back from injury, Bryan has played really well. No dumb mistakes, and he has been eating up to 30 minutes of ice time each night. It’s better than it was 3 years ago though. 3 years ago we would have had to replace a high scoring player. Now all we have to replace is a stay-at-home defenceman, which he has turned into.
So I guess we will be seeing Kronwall for a long stretch here. Hopefully Colaiacovo is coming back soon.
