Game 39: Home Sweet Home not ringing true

The Leafs return to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto after a long, and fairly unsuccessful, road trip. If they had woes on the road, you would think a return to their home arena may uplift and encourage the team. Unfortunately, it always seems to be difficult for any team to get their feet under them for the first game back.

This rang true for the Leafs for this game against the New York Rangers. The Leafs looked slow and uncomfortable, which was demonstrated by their 12 penalties throughout the game. If any team takes 12 penalties, they will find it difficult to win a game, and the Rangers capitalized on five powerplay chances.

The team’s poor play was backed up by a lackluster effort in goal by Andrew Raycroft. Halfway throughout the second period, Coach Maurice pulled Raycroft in favour of Scott Clemmensen. This was his first appearance as a Maple Leaf, to which I say congratulations. However, the game was already over at this point, so it was a bittersweet welcome to the Blue & White.

SO now the question is… who gets the next start?
