Luke Schenn to stay with big club

Are pigs flying, or did I miss something? The Maple Leafs are keeping a prospect on their roster? It sure looks that way. On Monday, Maple Leafs General Manager Cliff Fletcher stated that Luke Schenn would be staying with the Maple Leafs for opening day. This doesn’t for one minute mean he will be here for the season, as there are 9 games in which to use Schenn before either sending him to junior, or keeping him on the roster for the entire season.
Schenn was one of the Maple Leafs best looking defencemen during the pre-season. Luke played 7 games, scored 1 goal, scored 1 game-winning shootout goal, and ended up with a plus-3 rating. While most fans want higher numbers, Schenn is regarded as a stay-at-home defensive defenceman, and he played that role very well.
Cliff Fletcher announced this morning (Tuesday) that the club has signed Luke to a 3-year entry-level contract. It looks like the team plans on keeping Luke around for a while. Whether he stays with the Leafs, or goes to play for the Marlies, Luke looks to be a big piece of the on-going puzzle that is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
